Hey Everyone! Just wanted to share a quick update on my recent scouting trip to Indonesia!
Well as you all know I plan on moving there this fall, so the opportunity to tag along with Sergei and Courtney to visit our short term team in Lombok, Indonesia, was extremely exciting for me! I didnt think I was going to be able to go but thanks to the support of all my friends, family, and others I was able to purchase a ticket and go.
We arrived on April 24th and as soon as those wheels of the airplane touched the ground I felt a deep excitement fill my soul. “I’m really here… at this place Ive been preparing for about 8-9 months now…” It was surreal as I got into taxi after taxi asking everytime with joy “Are you Sasak?” and having my hope confirmed almost everytime with a resounding “Yes.”
These are the people God has given me His heart for!
The Sasak are almost 100% Muslim and are working on making their island the “island of 1000 mosques.” and they are doing an very good job of that. It seem that you couldnt drive more than 5 miles without seeing more mosques being built. They have almost no access to the gospel and they are found solely on the island of Lombok.
I was given the amazing chance to hike deep into the heart of the mountains and enter a Sasak village, pray for the people and share the gospel. Once again A SURREAL experience. Mind Blowing. These people I have studied, and prayed for, who were only a picture and a statistic to me, are now more real than ever!
At one point during our trip Sergei, Courtney, and I rented some motorbikes in order to do some exploring. We made our way down the southern coast to an area called Kuta. Here we stopped to admire the beach of an empty beach and watch the Sasak farming seaweed in the shallows of the ocean. After a few minutes we were greeted by four smiling and laughing children running around in their tattered and torn clothes. They were beautiful. They were very interested in us and soon I realized why, they spoke in their mixed english asking over and over for money. We would laugh and I would say to them in the only Sasak I knew “I dont have!” evetually they gave up and decided to just play and sing with us. My heart broke and I was praying for Gods hand in their lives, knowing full well I couldn’t possibly explain the love they had just waiting for them right now from their father in heaven.
As we walked back to our bikes we met their parents and tried desperately with all we had to share anything we could about Jesus… with no avail.
As we drove away Sergei in a frustrated tone said to me “I wish we had some kind of gospel tract or something.”
Then it clicked in my mind. That’s why I am called here. I am the gospel tract. A new passion and excitement welled up from deep inside almost bring me to tears. These people will know their Lord, their Father, their Lover. I can not wait to introduce this bride to their Jesus.
I want to thank so many people for their support, for giving so generously and making all of this possible and for the ever faithful prayer! You are all amazing and are changing my life and the world through prayer and support. I will keep you all updated as I continue to move closer to the date when I will head to Lombok, Indonesia permanently with my team.
